APRIL 22 2017

Debrecen, 30 March 2017: Wizz Air, the largest low-cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe, today announced the title sponsorship of Debrecen Airport Run, a unique running race, which will take place on the airport’s runway on 22 April.

This announcement once again underlines Wizz Air’s long-standing commitment to mobilize people and promote active lifestyle. The airline is already the title sponsor of several running events in its base cities across Europe. The Wizz Air Budapest Half Marathon, the Wizz Air Kyiv City Marathon, the Wizz Air Cluj-Napoca Marathon, the Wizz Air Kosice Runway Run and the Wizz Air Skopje Marathon are popular running events among both local professional and amateur runners as well as visitors of the cities.

Since its first commercial Debrecen flight in 2012, Wizz Air has constantly expanded its Debrecen network. In 2015, Wizz Air established base operations in the city creating a number of local jobs with the airline and its business partners, while bringing affordable travel to even more Hungarian customers. In 2016, Wizz Air carried 278,000 passengers on its Debrecen routes supporting over 200 local jobs.

Wizz Air now offers six low-fare routes from Debrecen.

Speaking at a press conference in Debrecen today, Gabor Vasarhelyi, Corporate Communications Manager at Wizz Air, said:“We are excited to announce yet another remarkable WIZZ running event.  The title sponsorship of the Wizz Air Debrecen Airport Run once again underlines our commitment to both the Hajdu-Bihar county and active lifestyle and we are sure this unique running event will be popular among experienced as well as beginner runners. Low-fare flying and running have a lot in common: they mobilize people, bring new experience and are affordable for everyone. WIZZ offers outstanding opportunities for both: sport and travel and we encourage all our customers not to miss out on these. See you on the runway on 22 April!”
